Sergeant Major Thomas E. Ruhl was born in Perry, Iowa. He enlisted in the Active Army September of 1986 and completed one station OST at Ft Benning, GA as an Infantryman. In 1990 enlisted into the Iowa National Guard and worked as a Military Technician. In 2000 enlisted into the Army Reserves and 2002 was selected for the AGR Program.
On 11 July 2016, Sergeant Major Thomas E. Ruhl was assigned as the USACAPOC G4 SGM. He
serves as the Senior Logistics Non-commissioned Officer for nine subordinate commands which
comprised of over 13,000 Soldiers located in 31 states and Puerto Rico; serves as functional advisor for enlisted logistics career management fields; provides technical assistance and guidance regarding NCO education, training, and utilization issues.
SGM Ruhl is a veteran of two deployments in support of OIF and OEF. His

During his military career, he earned the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal with three knots, National Defense Service Medal with star device, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Pathfinder Badge, Drivers Badge, German Marksmanship Badge, and other ribbons and awards. SGM Ruhl was awarded the Distinguished Order of Saint Martin for Quartermasters.
SGM Ruhl earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in Science Management from Thomas Edison University.
The Iowa native is married to Maria has one son Jared, and a step son James.
