JAPANESE SURRENDER

The very little known landmark of historical fact that was previously not marked in the province because it was never written in our history books. This is the Site of First Surrender of Japanese Forces on Cebu August 28, 1945 where 2,667 Japanese soldiers surrendered to the US and Filipino troops here in Northern Cebu. Japan’s 35th Army Gen. Kataoka, Gen. Fukue, 2 other generals and Admiral Harada surrendered their samurais to Maj. Gen. Arnold. The Japanese piled their weapons on the ground, and the war on Cebu was effectively over. Two days later, an additional 7,200 Japanese troops surrendered in Ilihan, bringing the total number of Japanese troops who surrendered to the Americal Division in Cebu to 9,867
