Quartermaster Melvin Stanton was born and raised in Corry PA. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1987 at the age of 19.
He has served at numerous commands during his 15 year in service with the navy. Being deployed 4 times to the Mediterranean Sea along with short deployments in the Caribbean Sea to track refugees and drug runners. One of his tours includes in being deployed in hostile waters during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
In 2007, Mr. Stanton decided for a change in military life and switched from blue to green. His five year term in the U.S. Army sent him to South Korea for 2 years before his last command at 3rdArmored Cavalry Regiment in Ft. Hood Texas. He was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2010 -2011.
After his return from Iraq he retired in 2012. He continued to work as a gov. contractor for BAE Systems out of Temple, TX.
He then moved to Minglinila, Cebu in 2014 in which he wed to his current wife Devina. They have 1 child named Mary Nicole (Nica) and now reside in Talisay City, Cebu.
Mr. Stanton joined VFW Post 12130 in September 2017. There he was trained to be Quartermaster Assistant. In the beginning of 2020 he again was appointed as Quartermaster Assistant in which he then became officially Quartermaster in March 2020. He has been re-elected to another term as Quartermaster for FY 2020-2021.
Quartermaster Stanton currently serves as the Buddy Poppy Chairman and also on the Talisay Landing Committee.
